Many in the world have lost their jobs due to COVID-19. According to the NY Times, over 36 million Americans have lost their jobs and have filed for unemployment.

As the world slowly opens back up, we do not have an exact date of when things will open fully or if living this way is the new normal. During this time, it can be hard finding a job to help meet your family needs, and I want to share with you how to make money during COVID-19.

The opportunities that I’m going to list below are jobs you can do from home, have flexible hours, and some will require you to make deliveries. Although these jobs may not replace your income, these jobs are a great place to get started earning income.

I know you may be skeptical of working from home and the scams online, I do my best to find honest jobs that do work, and you are more than welcome to check these opportunities out for scams by going to the Better Business Bureau or Rip Off Report. Virtual Assistant

A virtual assistant is a person who works remotely that does administrative work, appointment setting, social media management, and business support from home. They are mainly an office assistant but does all the work from home. There are many virtual assistant jobs you can find online, some are ongoing, and some are a one-time project. The average virtual assistant can earn $7 to $45 an hour (depends on your level of experience). Here is a list of companies to find virtual assistant jobs:

Liveops

Liveops is a call center job that you can do from home. Liveops offer a variety of brands you can choose to work from that includes customer service, roadside assistance, insurance representative, health care, and more. They also provide training, and you are able to choose your own schedule as well. The average pay for Liveops is $14 an hour.

Arise

Arise is also a call center job you can do from home. Arise offers customer service representative jobs for Carnival Cruise Line, Disney, Turbo Tax, and more. You will also get to choose a training schedule that fits you as well as pick your own hours after the training. The average pay for Arise is $9-12 an hour.

Sitel

Sitel is another call center job that you can do from the comfort of your home. As a customer service representative of Sitel, you will offer customer support, billing questions, product questions, schedule service orders, and installation, and provide technical support. Sitel offers training, and flexible schedules you can choose from that are part-time and full-time. The average pay for Sitel is $14 an hour.

Freelance Writer

A freelance writer is someone who is self-employed and writes content or does writing projects for clients. These projects can be one time or ongoing. As a freelance writer, you can earn, on average, $12-$60 an hour depending on your level of experience, or you can earn $100-$400 per word count. For example, you can charge $100 for a 500-word article, $250 for a 1000 word, and $400 for a 2500 word article. There are many platforms online to become a freelance writer and set up your profile. Bookkeeper

A bookkeeper is someone that handles and prepares financial transactions of a company. The financial transactions can include purchases or payments, and the bookkeeper documents these transactions. If you are good with finances and know how to manage books or would like to learn, you can apply to become a remote bookkeeper.

Social Media Manager

A Social Media Manager is someone who handles social media accounts for a company. Their tasks can include responding to comments, messages, advertising the company, managing advertisement campaigns, and more. You can earn, on average, $10-$26 an hour. Here are a couple of places you can find social media jobs:

Proofreader

A proofreader is someone that checks your content or text for grammar, spelling, punctuation, or errors. You don’t have to meet with anyone you can do this from the comfort of your home. A proofreader earns, on average, $12-$30 an hour. Here are a couple of places you can find jobs for proofreading:

Instacart

Instacart is a grocery service that delivers groceries to your door. As of now, they only operate in the United States and Canada.

How Instacarts works is a customer places an order online at their favorite grocery store and picks a time slot to be delivered. An Instacart shopper then shops for the items on order, and if it’s not available, they will send a text or call the customer for alternatives. Once they have shopped for all the items, the customer requested they will deliver the groceries.

The average pay for Instacart Shopper is up to $25 an hour, depending on how busy your shift.

DoorDash

DoorDash is similar to Instacart except DoorDash is where you order food for take out, and it’s delivered to your door. DoorDash is hiring workers to deliver take out to customers. The hours are flexible and the during this pandemic a lot of people are using this service.

The average pay for DoorDashers is $10-$25 an hour; it depends on how popular DoorDash is in your area.

Postmates

Postmates is like DoorDash and Instacart combine. Customers can order groceries, take out food, and more to get delivered to their door. The hours are flexible, and you take home 100% of what you earn.

The average pay for Postmate Shoppers is $10-$18 an hour, depending on how busy your schedule.

Transcriptionist

A transcriptionist is someone who listens to audios and transfers them into text. There are companies in the health, legal, and many other industries that hire transcriptionists. The hours are flexible, and you can work from the comfort of your home.

The average pay for a transcriptionist is $15-$30 an hour, depending on your level of experience. Here are a couple of places you can find transcriptionist jobs:

Online Tutor

An online tutor helps students out by teaching students online on different topics. There are a lot of online colleges, universities, and during this pandemic, the world needs online teachers and tutors. As a tutor, you will pick your own schedule and hours that fit you and your lifestyle.

The average online tutor earns between $10-$40 an hour. Here are a couple of places to get started as an online tutor:

FlexJobs

FlexJobs is an online job platform where you can find remote jobs with flexible schedules. As you can see above, most of the jobs that I listed you can find them on FlexJobs. FlexJobs has a wide variety of jobs that you can choose from, and you can do them all from home.

FlexJobs also offers training to help build your skills so you can boost your resume before applying to jobs. There is a monthly subscription to join Flexjobs; you can pay $14.95 a month, $29.95 quarterly, or $49.95 yearly. In my opinion, FlexJobs is worth paying the subscription, due to many jobs online could possibly be a scam. FlexJobs helps you out by offering scam-free work from home jobs and has an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau.

Upwork

Upwork is a freelancer platform where businesses hire independent contractors or freelancers for their business needs. Like FlexJobs, most of the jobs above you can find on Upwork as well. Upwork is similar to Flexjobs; it offers a wide variety of jobs you can apply to and set your hourly rate.

It is free to get started with Upwork, and you have the option to upgrade your account, which is $14.95  a month. You can still find jobs without upgrading to the monthly fee.
