I’m excited to start this journey, and I want to show others that it is possible to manage your money monthly and become debt-free. I’m married with a blended family, which includes four boys and two girls. Their ages range from 16 years old to 6 years old. We also have two dogs, a beagle and a tiny chihuahua. We have a full house in the summer and sometimes during the holidays as well. I love every bit of it.
Why Did I Decide to Share My Journey?
Growing up managing finances and budgeting was something that was not taught, and I have seen my family go through ups and downs when it comes to money. When I got older, I found myself going through the same thing even though I had a good job that pays well. Having a job only sets the foundation for having an income. You have to learn how to budget your money and tell it where you want it to go instead of it controlling you. I learned this from a financial guru named Dave Ramsey.
Before I discovered Dave’s Baby Steps, when I got paid each month, I was always waiting on the next paycheck because I would still have bills and not enough money to do the things I wanted to do. It was frustrating and embarrassing when friends ask you to go out, and you have to tell them you can’t because you don’t have enough money or make up an excuse not to go. I got tired of living like that and wanted to change the way I viewed money.
To help me on my journey to becoming debt-free, I am using Dave Ramsey seven Baby Steps, which are:
- Baby Step 1: Save $1000 to start your emergency fund.
- Baby Step 2: Pay off all debt using the debt snowball method. (Not including the mortgage.)
- Baby Step 3: Build your emergency fund to 3 to 6 months of expenses.
- Baby Step 4: Invest 15% of household income in retirement.
- Baby Step 5: Save for kids college.
- Baby Step 6: Pay off home.
- Baby Step 7: Build wealth and give.
As of now, I’m on baby step, and I will be sharing my journey through every step and hope to inspire you to join me.
Why Do I Want To Help Others?
I created this website to share my journey of becoming debt-free. I feel like being public with my journey will let others know that they are not the only ones experiencing the same money problems, and they can come along on the journey with me. I will be sharing my achievements as well as failures by sharing my journey on a month by month basis. This will not only motivate me to achieve my debt-free goal, but it will hold me accountable.
